About Wellness

Common issues and underlying symptoms

It’s my experience that people often feel that they have little or no control over their wellness situation. Some people are too busy to look at the wellness options available, some feel exhausted or overwhelmed to even think about what to do.

Here’s an illustration of the most common issues that clients come to me for support with and the underlying symptoms that many people suffer with.

  • Stress

Stress is nature’s way of making us more capable of physically defending ourselves. It comes from a threatening situation or pressure we feel. In Early Man, this may have been a life or death situation such as a grizzly bear coming towards you. In our modern world it may be work, school, relationships or money-related issues and fears that trigger this natural defensive response.
Stress can come from any situation that makes you feel frustrated, fearful or other negative emotions. In a stress situation, your body gives extra support and energy to your heart and your brain so you can run! But, as a result, the other secondary body systems such as digestive, immune and hormonal systems receive less energy. This is why so many people under stress suffer with poor digestion, a weakened immune system and hormonal imbalances.
The answer to reducing your stress is to understand the causes, get clarity on how it is affecting your body and learn natural ways to manage your stress effectively every day.

  • Anxiety

Anxiety is a modern phenomenon. It is often a series of negative predictions or worries (rather than an imminent threat or stressor) that triggers the same biological natural defence mechanism as stress. Anxiety is an uneasiness that continues after the stressor (or threat) has gone.
When you’re anxious you feel like you can’t cope, you’re not in control and you can’t focus fully or think logically about your problems. When anxiety is prolonged, it can drastically interfere with your everyday life. A constant, excessive level of anxiety can cause other physical symptoms and depression.
Thankfully, as with stress, the best way to reduce anxiety is to understand it, work out the triggers, effects and learn powerful techniques that give you back control and allow you to move forward.

  • Pain

All of us will have either been in pain ourselves or know someone who is suffering with pain. Pain ranges from that annoying niggle to a debilitating pain that limits what we do every day.
Pain can get us stuck in a loop of negative emotions and stop us sleeping – all of which create an additional stress on the body. Although we instinctively view pain negatively, it is the body’s way of telling us it needs our help.
By accepting that pain is your body's cry for help together it is possible to identify the potential causes of your pain like movement, certain foods, emotions and environmental factors such as heavy metals, toxins or bacteria. With this knowledge, you can take back control and learn effective natural ways to reduce your pain naturally.

  • Emotion

Let’s face it, there are times when our emotions can get the better of us - we all get stressed, overwhelmed or frustrated with ourselves or someone else. Unhelpful and negative emotions affect how we behave, how we communicate with others - they limit our capabilities and always (as proven by science) have a physical effect on the body.
Emotions can often sit in various areas of our body, which disrupt the energy and can have a physical and emotional impact. Often, we can get in an emotional loop that we feel we can’t get out of.
You can break that loop by releasing the energy disruption in our body and sending calming messages to the brain. This clears and rebalances our nervous system. Once you clear the negative emotions, the mind is ready to fully experience the benefits of positive emotions and regains logic, clarity and focus allowing you to move forward.

  • Digestion

The health of your gut is key to your overall physical and emotional wellbeing. 90% of your Serotonin (your happy hormone is created in the gut, at least 70% of our immune system is in our gut and the health of your microbiome (the bacterial colonies that live in your gut) play a huge role in your wellness.
Our gut has a direct link to our brain and the two directly impact each other – if your gut isn’t happy, your brain won’t be either and vice versa. In addition, our digestive system is often where many people carry stress, so it can be put under enormous pressure every day which over time, can affect our digestive health and overall health.
By making recommended changes and using effective techniques, you can support your gut every day and when it’s happier, you will be too!

  • Sleep

Do you find it hard to get to sleep, do you wake up often, too early or wake up exhausted due to a lack of quality sleep? Whatever your answer is, you are being sleep deprived and this can be a big stressor on the body.
Sleep is one of the most important, yet often ignored, pillars of health and well-being. During sleep, your body and mind are processing, repairing, recharging and rejuvenating. Lack of sleep means your body is constantly playing catch up with your wellness.
By analysing your sleep pattern together and understanding the myriad of factors that can disrupt your sleep, you can start getting more zzzz’s and waking up recharged and ready for the day ahead.

    “I’m just not feeling myself”

I hear this so often – it’s so common and can be so frustrating for clients. You are not poorly and yet you know you are not fully “well”. This is a state that you shouldn’t ignore and one that you don’t have to accept.
The body is very complex and can easily become out of balance. By identifying your exact niggles and understanding what you are or aren’t feeling, you will be able feel like you again!

  • Fatigue

Fatigue is very common and there are a number of reasons why you may be feeling tired, from the obvious like lack of sleep - to the less obvious reasons like bacteria, toxins, stress, hormone imbalances and food intolerances. If you are tired after a super busy day, an especially early start or a few late nights then you understand why your body understandably needs to rest. If you are tired for no reason over a period of time and unable to recharge your body and mind, then you need to break that cycle by understanding your fatigue.

Figuring out the real reasons of your fatigue will give you the insight you need to make changes and put you on a fatigue free path to wellness.

  • Confidence

Confidence is where we are strong enough physically but we feel emotionally “not good enough”. The trigger that initially causes this lack of confidence is often something that happened in the past or recent times that made you feel “not good enough”. After that point, every time you are put in a situation where you do not feel confident or comfortable, your brain goes back to that memory and creates an automatic “not good enough” feeling which can be upsetting, frustrating and limiting. Being able to fully understand this reaction and retrain your brain to see it differently, allows you to gain control over your confidence, increase it and puts you in a much more comfortable place.

  • Hormone Imbalance

Hormones are key as you need them to regulate many of the systems in your body. The hormonal glands all work together and rely on each other for help. Together they are responsible for some of the most essential functions in the body, including puberty, menstruation, sleep, stress levels, mood, sex drive, weight, appetite and many more. Imbalanced hormonal glands and seemingly innocent lifestyle habits can both wreak havoc on your hormones and those vital physical and mental functions. Knowing what factors may be causing your hormonal imbalance is important knowledge to keep you at your optimal vitality.
